From Gloria Steinem:
At the heart of Girls Speak Out is its success in bringing together girls from diverse backgrounds, and showing through links to pre-history and today's events  that symbols in every culture and continent speak of a past---and a future- when females were respected in authority. It was originated by and has depended on Andrea's rare ability to bring people of different ages and backgrounds together, and to challenge such deep and unfair divisions as racism, sexism and economic class.

Read a new report Because I Am A Girl: The State of the World's Girls 2010
Focusing on two of the 21st century's fastest growing areas - the boom in city populations and the explosion of IT and communication technology, the report looks at the prospects and perils facing girls. While there are great opportunities, prejudice and poverty is excluding millions of girls from taking advantages of the possibilities on offer. Urban poverty, lack of proper housing and sexual harassment can make many girls feel unsafe. Cyberspace can also be hazardous - a hunting ground for traffickers and bullies. The report argues that girls need to be able to gain the skills to protect themselves and to recognise both the threats and the opportunities that await them on the city streets and online.

Welcome!

We are over 100,000 girls and women on five continents ages 7 and up who believe in and work to build girls' strengths, leadership and activism. We have offices in the USA and Africa, partners in five countries and programs around the globe.

*Girl-serving organizations in the USA offer Girls Speak Out as an exciting and meaningful way to begin any journey in the belief that inside-out builds strength.

*
In and around Nairobi, about 100 GSO Kenya girls in local schools have been mentoring other girls for 5 years.

US Aid (Agency for International Development) reports on their work with our GSO Forums...Click to read about their successes!

In Sierra Leone, the local government registered GSO as an official agency. We provide a much-needed gender lens to offical proceedings.

Do you know that most girls never learn about their challenges as female? And that when girls and women understand what can happen together, they are stronger, less confused and unlikely to blame themselves for societal prejudices and unfair beliefs? Best of all, we are happier and more successful.

We're here to offer girls what they're missing in other places, and make sure they have the tools to build a complete and satisfying life.

We support girls as they create and move ahead with a personal inside-out agenda. We work with each girl as an individual whether she comes to us on her own, through a friend or family member, as part of a group, or through a national or international network.
We know that girls are strong, they bounce back from challenges no matter how unfair and  scary, and that girls have answers. We believe that any of the problems children and adults face today, especially when our gender is used to control us, can be solved with and by girls.
We know times are hard globally as a financial crisis affects each of us. We continue to be inspired because the need for change continues; and girls' strengths are priceless, timeless and enduring.

We know that the future of the world's children depends on their mother's education, and that the education of girls--for themselves and for their families' future-- is a necessity. We are dedicated to educating girls from the inside-out, and helping ensure they have information vital to their peace of mind and success.
Heard about Girls' Rights? Listen to this: Girls are born with important rights that are guaranteed by most nations on this planet.... You own the right to food, water, an excellent education, clothes, safety in and out of the house, a good place to live, to decide when and whether to have sex, children and to practice a religion, to choose your future and your friends and partners, live free from abuse and neglect...and to grow up independent and strong.

Check out the Girls' Global Plan of Action, one of the first speak-outs by girls about essential rights!!!
Our book is one of the first girls' self-help books that connects you across continents with girls and women who support you.
We collaborate and participate in, read about, lead, share and help organize events and spread messages that bring girls  together to find their true selves free of judgment and prejudice.
We offer Girls Speak Out® workshops, action projects, networks of grassroots and global individuals and groups/tribes, trainings, national initiatives, curricula and conferences that express your unique true self, celebrate our differences--and support each girl's
leadership from the inside-out
.

We collaborate with groups and indidivuals
, and we are not a traditional membership organization. We want to help create leaders, not followers, and we move with you as you move ahead. We listen and share what we learn. We are creating a lasting network of committed girls and women who resonate worldwide.
We can help you
name and change what challenges you may face growing up, and what to do to spread the word about girls' strengths. We listen to each of you, and together we have the power to change the world with and for girls....

Because of you we are experts in bringing girls together from different backgrounds and economic and social classes, ethnicities, races, locations, and sexual orientations to connect across categories that can hide our true selves. We say, No More!!! No Way!!! as we find and celebrate common ground and unique gifts.

Explore the green stone club, which values our planet, do what you decide will make you and others strong and positive, and hold onto a strong, clear voice as you meet and overcome challenges, have fun and experience victories! Share stories and ceremonies about girls' experiences with women of different ages and backgrounds in our workshops, books and online.
